Dear Mummy Family--
I'm here at TODD-AO Dubbing Reel 3 (out of seven) up against
the time line, as usual. The baby will soon be out for everyone to see on
August 1st, but, in order to make that date with the 4,000 plus
prints, everything, including the 949 visual effects shots have to be locked by
July 3rd. Time is growing short.
Dubbing is a fascinating process, a meticulous process by which the sound effects (tens of thousands of them), the music, and the dialog are balanced together to create the sound tapestry of the movie. If it's done well, the mix will deliver the excitement of the effects, clarity to the dialog, and the cohesion of the music--but all these elements have to share a common space in your local theater, even in 5.1 and that's the trick, to choreograph the three elements for maximum effect. Of course, that is a matter of taste. Some directors favor a vivid, almost naked sound effects and dialog approach ("No Country for Old Men"); other like to let the music dominate (like Terry Malick's film "Days of Heaven"). In the first two "Mummy" movies, Stephen Sommers did an excellent dub, balancing everything for maximum effect that made those movies extremely vivid.
I want to deliver no less to you.
The scoring in London went so well. Randy spent ten days, two sessions a day, with the 105 piece London Symphony and the music is doing a great job giving the movie bravado, adventure, and thematic beauty.
I'm not seeing much of my wife Barbara or my triplets these
days as dubbing goes on ten hours a day, visual effects about five hours a day,
and color timing another three hours from 10 till 1 A.M.
It's a glorious process finishing a film, seeing it all knit together. I have completed 783 visual effects and have 196 to go. It will be a photo finish but I take a lot of pride and satisfaction in the quality and diversity of the effects. You've gotten a taste in the teaser trailer, which brings us to this...
The full trailer will be attached to the head of "WANTED" coming out June 27th. But, of course, it will debut here first.
I've attached a few photos for your perusal. In six weeks, you will be seeing 24 pictures per second for 1 Hr. 54 Minutes of "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" with all its bells and whistles blazing.
Then, I'm going surfing!!!!!

I love how you describe the " sound tapestry" of the movie; and yes, S.Sommers´ " Mummies" had a great " sound tapestry" and they are really extremely and wonderfully vivid. Yes, we are not expecting less of this Mummy of yours !!
So, pretty soon the time will come: we will be able to enjoy your creation...and you will be able to enjoy your " other " lovable creation ( the gorgeous triplets, of course !! ) along with their beautiful mother !!....and YESSSS... go surfing Rob...you earnt it man !!!

dont know if its real or not but the plot he talks about seems real enough for a mummy film.
Also Sean, as a mummy fan i know you want the film to do well and smash box office records, most likely with the hope that they will continue the series assuming they get fresh material. But as a realist and a fan of the first mummy, i think that this movie will realistically make anything from 150 to 250 million, especially if you go off of what the other ones were making, adjust to current ticket prices and adjust to current trends. Dark Knight just has too much hype and too much viral marketing for M:TotDE to compete. However, if my projection is valid it will stand to make more than Prince Caspien. We can all hope for the best though, that this film is highly entertaining and will make large sums of money so that we can see another in the series, assuming that there is a good script.
btw, to maz and the rest that took it upon themselves to instruct me in the ways of Brendan. I went back and watched a few of his films that were suggested to me and i must say he truly impressed me. thank you for the heads up.
Yes! It's coming out on me birthday. Me going to see it on my birthday which is on the day that the mummy comes out which is on my birthday which is the day the mummy comes out!

Well we're now just 7 days away from finally getting to see the official mummy: tomb of the dragon emperor movie trailer!, how are all of you who are waiting for it like me, able to handle the fact that mummy 3 movie trailer with be here next week on friday june 27th, 2008?!?!?!?. I hope we all get to see some movie clips and tv spots for it too around the same time that the movie trailer is released!!!!!!!!!!.

I second that Dan. It shows commitment on Rob's part to still direct this movie, while a life changing experience is taking place. Having triplets would be enough for any man to cope with but having them and staying committed to making this film shows what strength of character Rob obviously has. We musn't forget Barbara because it can't be easy not being able to see Rob as often as she might need to after a multiple birth. So lots of people have made some sacrificies to make this film. As fans, we should be very grateful to them. I, for one, want to say a big THANKYOU !!!!!!!!

That trailer looks fantastic! I was fortunate to work on the Action Unit at the beginning with Vic Armstrong and Johnathon Taylor. We didn't get much of a chance to see what first unit was doing next door but it sure looks great now that I have. Had no idea that many visual fx shots were going into this production, almost 1,000. That is pretty intense when you think about it. Good luck on the scoring and finishing those fx shots. I can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks for the opportunity to work on a great movie.

This looks great i loved the first two movies but i thought that Jet Li Wasn't making movies anymore!!!!!
My whole family and I are big fan's of the first two Mummy movies. If I may ask, what happened to Rachel the original "Evie"? I just don't think it will be the same without her. Brendan and Rachel seemed to light up the screen when they were on it together. If I was Brendan, I wouldn't have done the movie without Rachel.
Other than her role being re-casted with Maria Bello, it looks to be another great movie. If it was me, I just would've taken her out of the movie all together. She could've been off on her own adventure, or with the scholars at Bainbridge. I'm really am looking forward to seeing Jet-Li in this movie, and the magic he will bring to it.

My family and I are a big big fan of mummy1 and mummy2, one of my all time favorite movies if i might add. I was desperately hoping for a mummy 3 and when i found out there was going to be one i could not believe it i was so happy. After seeing the movie trailer i was a bit disappointed to see that not all the characters from the previous movies were there, (like Rachel Weisz). Also that the movie has gone out of contact.. The first two movies was of suspense and action, but now the third movie looks of action and more of comedy. My family and I and I'm sure most of the other mummy fans fell in love with the movie because of the suspense and kind of horror in the movie. When people or fans go back to see a sequel of a movie they expect to see the same people and story line from the first movie. This is very important to us! Because it would not be the same.. The third movie takes place in china and thats great but it would have been even greater if it was in Egypt again. I mean the fist two movies took place in Egypt and it worked out fine, the audience love consistency. Please don't take this feedback the wrong way, as a mummy movie fan i feel that I need to share my opinion. I will still be going to see the movie because despite the changes in the movie I am still a mummys fan. Oh I have also heard rumors that there will be a mummy 4. I want to be a movie director when I grow up and I have some The Mummy 4 Ideas. First Rick, Evey,and Johnathan old getting too old i think it is time to start new and fresh things trust me Mr. Cohen i've worked days getting ideas they are great. So anyway i think Alex and his wife should carry the torch for Rick and Evey and that doesn't mean that Rick can't use his guns and all of that but The Mummy 4 should focus on Alex and his wife and Rick and Every aren't like the stars of the movie. I think the Action should shift to South America were Alex takes his parents on a getaway to the Caribbean for them to relax and enjoy their retirement but Alex gets a Call at the hotel from his professer (or the british museum) telling him to take a boat over to South America to look for a Tomb they find it and awaken a Mayan Mummy and the O' Connell's have let a journey.
This movie is awesome the trilogy is amesing now its complete, I just have a question , why isn't the real Evelyn on this movie i mean the one who did the first and the second one, why did you decide to change her for this one?
