Hi Rob, thanks for the updates and photos. You have two of the world best martial arts actor and actress in your hands - Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. Please take this advantage and use them well. Take some long shots instead of over using cut-paste as in the typical Hollywood action movies. Do a justice on the fluency and beauty of the martial arts. Wow your audience. You have got such fantastic stars! Can't wait to see'em on the big screen!

Please reconsider your decision to not use Alan Silvestri's themes in the film.

I really loved his themes and I really want this film to have a semblance of musical consistency and continuity. It would really help tie the films together. There is still plenty of room for Randy Edelman to compose new music and themes. The only themes that would logicaly return would be the main heroic/adventure O'Connell Family theme and the Rick and Evy love theme.

Always loved Bruce Lee and all that Shaolin Temple stuff. This film connects the two - how amazing is that! Mummies and martial arts!

Wow! Rob where do you find the time? The photo is amazing, as the film is going to be. As Suzie said, mummies and martial arts....what a combination. You are really pulling all the stops out on this one. Looking at Jet Li (and he does look majestic) it almost makes you want him to triumph over Rick....but only for a second.
I know this film will be very exciting and I can't wait for its release in England.
I too liked the Bruce Lee films (and I'm old enough to have seen them when he was still alive). Anything with martial arts in is entertaining for me. Better still, it's also got Brendan Fraser in it. What more could we want??!!

Thanks Maz. Missed Enter The Dragon last night but I've seen it so many times anyway, as you can imagine.LOL
The rescue was chaotic! I had almost negotiated their release but then the head warden started going on about being lonely and I was getting a little nervous. Didn't have my suit either! And I had left the feathers in the dirigible. Just in time I heard someone yell "You're not taking me alive, you *******!" It was Captain Cloudy, obviously regaining consciousness. Everyone left the room I was in to go and help. There was a loud bang and then Captain Cloudy appeared in front of me, cape flowing, a bellydancer hanging on to him, and DavidC right behind. They looked surprised to see me but I quickly led them to the dirigible. The bellydancer would not get in - said it belonged to the devil. I said no, it had been made by Izzy, but she ran off. We flew hard over Gouda (did you see us Anita?) and continued west. Once we got to the south coast of England where I live, Captain Cloudy said "I'll take it from here, soldier. Good job." They flew over the sea and that was the last I saw of them. Maz, do you think I will get a medal?LOL. Delilah, don't go to Marrakesh.LOL. No injuries Maz, but I do need to get these high heels off!

Welll... the Captain's BACK!! LOL. The last two days have been such a blur for me. Soldiers you should never fly a dirigible under the influence, TRUST ME!! I hardly remember anything now. I woke up this morning somewhere in Australia I think. The dirigible is pretty much wrecked now so I won't be bringing it back. My new suit has a jet-pack on the back of it, so I'll just fly back to base camp on my own. I'm leaving right now, that bellydancer chick is looking for me and she's saying she may be... PREGNANT!! M'kay, this is a serious one. TM3 family I was just on ropeofsilicon.com checking out some movie news when I read this comment that a troll posted...

"It must be killing Rob Cohen for him to have to kiss up to the small band of loony commentators who basically live on his blog. You get a sense in his writing that he know that he has a cinematic turkey on his hands and he would rather not even do the film if he had a choice. Any director who had some faith in the work he is doing would not lay it on as thick as Rob has been doing for this film and you almost feel bad for him."

We know how to have fun and we know how to be positive. Rise above it, as I'm sure Rob does. When this film has made billions of dollars the poor troll will have to eat his words. We know that we are intelligent, caring, fun individuals and spiritually more enlightened than that poor soul, whose only aim in life is to pull apart anyone's attempt to be creative (as Rob obviously is and just a little bit spiritual if his updates are anything to go by). We have to feel sorry for such envious individuals. He obviously has no talent of his own so tries to criticise others who have.

I've just finished watching Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story on TV (third time I've seen it and I still love it). If Mummy 3 is half as good as that I'll watch that loads of times too.

Does anybody know if the mummy will be a mummy at all in the film like Imhotep was in the first two? I mean, with the whole regenerating thing and all.

Erica... I read an early draft of the script a good while ago, and from what I remember, Li's mummy and Arnold Vosloo's are somewhat similar (meaning they both do regenerate to get back to their full powers). I could be wrong though, scripts go through hella drafts before they actually get made. I do know for sure that Jet Li is gonna lay that smack down on his enemies, just like Vosloo did. I can't wait to see that avalanche scene Rob!!! OK, I'm off again. UP UP and AWWWWAAAY!!

I have infiltrated an enemy camp while doing recon. It's called "Post here if you think the movie will suck" and it consists of people just adding their names. I think we should plan a raid!

I am worried about the music because, sometimes i think that the music "makes" the movie.
I saw Transformers from Michael Bay, and the only thing that destroyed the movie was the music! That sucked!
Dramatic music in action scenes? And always that "political\military" tone in all the movie!!

Hopefully Jet can have more 'acting' screen time besides his awesome ass kicking. He earns alot of critical rave in recent movies like Hero, Fearless and Unleashed which are successful both critically and commercially.

Rui, I wouldn't be too worried about the music. If it's the same composer as Dragonheart and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, I have no doubts on the quality of the music. Also, I havn't seen Transformers yet, (I should!) but I know exactly what you mean. Bad music takes something away from a good movie. Not to the point of ruining it, but it certainly does something!

Howdy. Yeah, I agree. Poor music can hurt a film that's rather enjoyable. And too much music and score can hurt a film that's, well, rather enjoyable! But I remain faithfull that this installment is in good, capable hands. It won't let anyone down.

Besides the Terra Cotta soldiers the Family O' Connell will do battle with, I really want to know how different the villians will be in this one. Will they be like mummies or more like those monkey warriors in Lara Croft Tomb Raider? And I think this has been asked already but what will Jet Li be like? I know he has powers and I believe he turns into a dragon near the end but when he first comes back to life will he be like when Imhotep was when he was first awoken?

P.S. I was just thinking out loud. At least we can do that here and not come under fire from "trolls!" lol haha :)

I'm wondering the same thing about the terra cotta army too Steven. Maybe the army will be a mixture of both a stone outer shell and deteriorating mummy bodies on the inside, since they were real people before they were cursed. It would be pretty cool to see Rick punch one of them in the face or something and we get to see the warrior's decaying bones through the stone. As for Jet Li, I don't think he's gonna be exactly like Imhotep when he's re-awakened. I think I know what happens but I shall not spoil it for you. I'll let Rob uncover the rest of the story for us. Hi Steven! All of them! He looks great whatever he's wearing. Did like the military look at the beginning of the first Mummy, but loved the handsome adventure guy look throughout. Am loving the jacket in the new vid. Sigh...LOL. The prison look is my least favourite! BTW - loved your idea of getting more cast and crew to blog us here when the movie is finished. I did enjoy The Mummy Returns very much but do remember after all the hype of what the Scorpion King would look like (the whole half-man/half-scorpion) and then finally seeing it I was a little disappointed. It was still cool but a little disappointing. Hey, I'm sure Rob knows what hes doing and it has been, what, 6 years?!?, since TMR so I'm sure whatever Jet will look like it will be pretty cool and awesome.

I have a question for The Mummy fans out there. Delilah, Maz, etc etc (you know who you are) what Rick O' Connell look do you like the most. This one, or the look he had in the previous two?

The first MUMMY was so very ,cheesy but in a funny way,but i think THE MUMMY RETURNS was such a hack of a film trying to re do many things which were on the first film and with a bad cgi which looks like from a playstation. Apparently from these pictures and the new setting maybe this film will be a pretty good.

We'll all hollows eve is over and i feel like i've missed it i always loved Halloween it was kinda always my favourite holiday growing up even a little more so than Christmas which by the looks of things in the past few years will start tomorrow.
i was in the town all day doing security it just meant that i had to stand and watch and be responsible while everyone else enjoyed it and celebrated around me by the time i got home i was soo tired i couldn't think about celebrating we'll mummy family i hope you all enjoyed it for me, it was always kinda special for me when i was younger my grandmother used to have a party every year for the family and i used to help her out but shes not here anymore and it hasn't been the same since then suppose its all about growing up aye kk sorry for going all sentimental on you all there for a minute i'll just have to go all out next year get a costume dress up and enjoy it.
k everyone how did i go for you all is Halloween celebrated alot where you all are here in Derry its huge everyone dresses up goes into town where there's a parade, a kinda concert and a big fireworks display i was surprised today to see a lot of faces from around the world who had come here for the night.
right all i'm off to bed i'm beat and i think this is another long post lol sorry just want to say hi to everyone sorry for not mentioning names you all know who you are I'll check back in soon, thanks for all doing this blog everyone.

Somehow I never got round to celebrating it as an adult either. I'm pleased that you all had a really good time (even just watching everyone else as a security guard).
Delilah, I thought that scene was sweet too. Showed Rick had tender feelings for Evie. I also liked the scene when he gave her the set of tools. It made me smile. If only real live men were that sweet.

My jet pack is silver with purple stripes, which glow in the dark. I've been up, up and away on it and it handles very well so don't you worry that you'll drop out of the sky over the Atlantic but you could arrrange to drop into the big guy's lap and pretend your jet pack malfunctioned(sneaky eh)?

I wonder, however, if you and the screenwriters are aware of the following bit of Chinese folklore concerning the ancient emperors:

A Chinese emperor, as a descendant of Chinese dragons, would not have to be cursed to become a shape-shifter. He would have the ability to turn into a dragon, or any other creature he wished, due to his royal bloodline. Dragons in Chinese lore were shape-shifters, and could also control the weather. It'd be pretty neat to see your movie use some of China's authentic mythology.

re cultural sensitivity, i don't think it is necessary to demonize the terracotta army which was afterall an important world heritage, there can still be fierce battle for great cinematic visuals due to misunderstanding between the two camps because they lived in different eras and cultures.

THE MUMMY RETURNS was just clumsy in his own realizitation, its looks like Sommers made it very quickly with no care just wanna take a quick buck re doing wath we saw in the first movie and with bad cgi (that scorpion king was the most awful cgi creature, its looks like from a playstation game) not to mention that even much worse Conan the barbarian rip off which is the Scorpion King spin off, lets hope TOMB OF THE DRAGON`S EMPEROR doesnt suck cuz the story looks pretty good.

isn't it a sacrilege to make poop like this in the presence of a new "Indiana Jones" film? It was one thing to be pulling their antics when Indy's whip was hung up for all those years, but Universal can't push this far enough to the end of the summer to keep away from Indy

Tough decision,indeed...i like both series and comparing them its as comparing apples with pears. The Indy series is a great classic, mi favorite is the one with Sean Connery as Indiana`s dad, and those movies were made by one of the greatest directors of all time, Steven Spielberg, but the MUMMY series is just pure fun, nothing less nothing more and altought mr. Cohen is not a "big" name in Hollywood he demonstrated to be a good action flicks's director...after all they are playing the same game; paying hommage to those old 40s action adventure films.
When THE MUMMY was released in 1999 lots of people compared it with Indiana Jones movies for the archaelogy`s topic and fast paced action equally to the matinee serials of old days, and it was a success at the box office summer but in this same genre we would compare other flicks like "Romancing the Stone" or even that 80s tv show "Tales of the gold monkey" starring Rev. Camden in it,LOL.So its just a matter from wath some moviegoers like and wath some others doesnt, but cerntainly i cannot wait for the new Indiana jones adventure and i will give it a chance to THE MUMMY 3 if this would be as good as the first one.

You are sooooo right. I was watching the DVD last night of Gods And Monsters... well the bit about the making of the film. Lynne Redgrave said that American actors were encouraged to present one persona but Brendan was a more complex actor than that. She went on to say that he was a joy to work with because he was a "real actor". Ian Mckellan was heard to say, after seeing the film, "I could learn a lot from this boy". These are very experienced actors and Lynne has come from a dynasty of actors. If she can praise him in that way who are the trolls to question him? Ian Mckellan would not have uttered those words if he had not been impressed. I was impressed by Brendan in that film (not that I'm not impressed with him in other roles). I have seen interviews with Harrison Ford and found him to de devoid of charisma. In the past famous screen actors always had charisma in some form. Brendan has it.......I'm sorry but Harrison Ford doesn't. I enjoyed "Romancing The Stone", more than the Indiana Jones movies, because Michael Douglas has some charisma. Not anywhere near as much as the big guy but it is there. You can believe a girl would fall in love with him.... and you have to believe that the lead man is capable of capturing a woman's heart to enjoy the romance in the movie. I believed Evie would fall for Rick.....no problem!!!! Probably because I could......and I don't fall easily. Maybe I'm impressed with Brendan's life style. I don't think I have ever read a single bad word he has had to say about Afton. If a man is that enamoured by his wife then there has to be some substance to him......
I'm sure any woman, who has ever been disrespected by a man, would warm to him for that. ALL TOGETHER NOW GIRLS....GO BRENDAN!!!!!

Just can't wait so see this movie, Jet looks so great. When I close my eyes I can see Jet Li doing this kung fu chops, and Brendan Fraser looking chocked and then screaming, and then I laugh so hard.

I'm very positive about your directing, I loved the way Bruce Lee Story was directed. I don't expect nothing but THE action-funny-scary 2008 blockbuster.

Hey Maz...I agree again. I liked "Romancing the Stone"...Michael Douglas can´t compare to our Big Guy ( either in looks or in acting skills) but he is a pretty charismatic guy.
About Rick O´Connell,to me, he is definitely the archetype of the " romantic hero" ( my fav.kind of character!)and because of the man who is impersonating him, you do believe that he is capable of a superhuman feat, having an Epic Journey, fighting against supernatural creatures and defeating the Devil incarnate ,in order to fulfill the ultimate goal : save the World AND "capturing a woman's heart " BIG SIGH. He surely does...
Many people talks about the great "chemistry" that Brendan and RW had on screen...Well, I saw the same chemistry between Bren and many of the other leading ladies he worked with ... I actually think that most of that chemistry is coming from Brendan´s astonishing sensuality and sex appeal.Oh yes, any leading lady would fall for this dashing Rick! Then, I have no fear. I´m sure that Maria will be great as the new Mrs O´Connell, and we will be able to enjoy the romance on the movie...

Howdy! Wow, this family is really growing. That's impressive. I can only imagine how many more people will flock to this site by the time the film's release grows even closer.

Well, I just really wanted to just drop by and say hello. I watched a little of The Mummy Returns before and loved it. I watched the final battle and when Rick encounters Imhotep and everyone at the museum when him & Ardeth go and save Evie. And, yeah, I've decided that there is no question that Evie/Maria Bello will be great in this one. Evie is just really different in TMR compared to TM.

P.S. (I'm trying not to make my infamous multiple posts) Anyone who has any doubt the TM3 is NOT in good hands should just go watch Dragonheart. That was really just a fairy tale adventure movie. It was fun and I loved it.

Hey, will you two stop mirroring my behavior!!!!!????!!! I watched TMR last night!!! I hadn't watched it for a while. I really love Alex. He's a little star. He was so comical when he kept saying, "are we there yet"?
I always laugh when Rick is fighting with the soldier mummy on the top deck of the bus, sticks his fingers in his eyes and then sees the bridge coming, yells, "ooooohhh", and throws himself on the floor.
TMR did have a different feel to TM but I enjoyed it just the same.
Delilah, I agree that Brendan has sensuality and sex appeal (sorry Brendan, cover your ears and hum. We're talking about you again). If you watch any of his interviews though, there is also an element of vulnerability. He tends to speak quietly and a person can say more and be more effective with that tone of voice. I don't know about you, but I grew up in an environment where people all talked at once, very loudly. Seriously, why didn't Rob cast Jessica Biel as Evie when Rachel dropped out?!? That would've been so awesome! After all, they've worked together on Stealth and we know she can act and pull off an English character (The Illusionist). Jessica's also incredibly beautiful and can definitely kick ass! But I guess we can't have Evie as buff as Brendan! lol :)

Been busy partying all weekend - it's Guy Fawkes Bonfire night and there's been fireworks going off all weekend. Glad you are enjoying spy school, DavidC.LOL. As far as the Mummy 3 intro goes, I know it's gonna have an opening prologue. That's a must for any mummy movie. I don't think Oded will be doing the narration though. I think it'll most likely be Isabella Leong or Michelle Yeoh... or maybe James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman, they do alot of voiceover work. LOL.
